On May 12, 2018, indie rock artist, Liam B. Smith, released a brand new music video, for his new single called, “Keep Your Head Up.” I think the music video speaks for itself when it comes to Liam B. Smith’s determination to achieve new heights and take his music career to the next level.
Not only does this video tell a story relatable to most high school students dealing with the stresses of figuring out their futures after graduation, but it also touches on more sensitive topics like the daily pressures parents can put on their kids sometimes. These are things MOST people go through. Throughout the music video, I know I was definitely cheering on the female protagonist the whole time as her mother was nagging her to take up the offer she made to her about paying for half of her schooling. By the end of this video, this girl goes INSANE from it all and I think everyone can agree that we ALL have been there. Even though they don’t always mean to, parents can drive us crazy. Usually, it is out of love, but sometimes the only way to get through it is by keeping your head up… See what I did there? Therefore, I can really appreciate the concept behind the, “Keep Your Head Up,” music video because it does actually tell a story and is something most teenagers are going through these days.
As for the actual song, “Keep Your Head Up,” definitely gives off a lot of Cage the Elephant vibes, with a dash of Arctic Monkeys and dare I say, maybe even a sprinkle of Black Keys influence in there as well. All sounds I can appreciate entirely, together creating a sound known as, Liam B. Smith. Without a doubt, “Keep Your Head Up,” is an incredibly catchy indie rock song straight from the hook, to the very end. The song immediately draws attention to itself at the very start, as the drums act as if a crowd is clapping to beat. I could hear and see it all right away. This single was MEANT to be a crowd pleaser with its high energy and has potential to get a crowd going CRAZY. The perfect opening to any set. Not to mention, I am also a fan of the lyrics and how Smith is talking about this person so admirably. I don’t think we hear admiration enough in lyrics lately when it comes to romantic-esque songs making, “Keep Your Head Up,” unique and more genuine than most songs you would hear on the radio these days.
