OUT TODAY! The student-run record label, Blue Hawk Records, released their twelfth studio compilation featuring a variety of artists and genres titled, After Midnight! One of the various bands featured on the album is a rock band from Brick, New Jersey called, Wynward! Wynward just recently released their debut full-length studio album, Tides, this past December 2017 and has continued to build on their presence in the local music scene ever since the release by playing major New Jersey venues like, Starland Ballroom and The Stone Pony. With the dedication these guys have, the sky is the limit with their fresh rock sound that brings me right back to the late 90s and early 2000s rock. Here is what they had to say about working with Blue Hawk Records and their featured single on the compilation, “Give Up!”
1.) How did you guys come across auditioning for the latest Blue Hawk Records compilation, After Midnight? When did you decide to audition for it? How come?
Our drummer Capo heard about it and thought it would be a good opportunity for the band.
2.) Can you tell us anything about the song you guys recorded? What is the name of it? Maybe what is it about?
“Give Up” is about being true to who you are and not giving in to the pressures around you. We changed our band lineup and name a couple years ago to break any mold we were associated with and this song is a reflection of that.
3.). Now I want to try and get to know you guys a little more, so let’s drop down to the basics. How did you all meet? How long have you guys been a band? Who are some of the influences behind the music you make?
The three of us have known each other for over 15 years and we have been playing in bands just as long. Wynward is the first time just the three of us have been in a band. Some of the influences we have are Pearl Jam, Weezer, Foo Fighters, and Metallica.
4.) A little less basic. I see that you guys have played out before. What are some of the venues you have played? Which one was your favorite?
We have played venues in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. In New Jersey we have played at the Starland Ballroom, Stone Pony, Wonderbar, Court Tavern, Roxy and Dukes, Stanhope House, The Saint, River Rock, and The Brighton Bar. The Brighton Bar is one of our favorite venues to play. We have met and played with great bands there and we always feel at home.
5.) What do you hope to get out of this Blue Hawk Records experience and the release of, After Midnight?
We hope to expose our music to a new crowd and show everyone what we truly love to do.
6.) Any other local bands, or musicians you would like to give a shout out to?
We would like to give a shout out to our good friends in Funeral Students. They have a great sound and are fun guys to be around.
7.). What are some of Wynward’s goals for 2018?
Our goals for 2018 include promoting our album, “Tides,” continuing to work on our next album, and planning a tri-state tour.
8.). Where can everyone find your already released music?
Our music is available digitally to stream on most music platforms including Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, and Apple Music. Physical albums are available to purchase at all of our live shows and through contacting us on any social media platform.
